The Client

AnimalZ are a national Veterinary Clinic chain with clinics throughout New Zealand. They currently have 10 branches from Aucklands' North Shore to Christchurch.
They offer a full range of Veterinary Services and Retail Pet Superstores selling everything form Pet Feed to Toys and Accessories.

The Brief

AnimalZ were looking to replace their existing website that was starting to look a little dated and was proving difficult and time consuming to maintain. The previous site did not allow AnimalZ to update the site without having to delve into the actual code of the web page and this required not only a large degree of time but also knowledge and experience in web page code. They were keen to retain the functionality of the old site but to improve on it and also to add some new features.

Development

After the design had been settled on work started on developing the site to meet their objectives.

PHP and MySQL were chosen as the main technologies that would be used to construct the site as they both provide good cross-browser and cross-platform support and with MySQL it has good support via the cPanel provided by the Web Host.

A very important part of the project was to ensure that the site would be easily updatedable for the client and therefore a custom 'Content Management System (CMS)' was created. This CMS allows the client to easily update clinic details, i.e. staff, phone numbers, opening hours, etc. It allows provides a GUI for them to manage their On-Line Newsletters, Article Library and News items.

A simple Forum was created which is directly monitored by the client and also an On-Line Cattery booking form which gives their clients the ability to book their pet into one of the AnimlaZ catteries without phoning or visiting a clinic.
